Jesus – lẽ thật và ngụy thư

TALKING ABOUT JESUS — BUT NOT THE SAME JESUS?

Today, when someone says, “I believe in Jesus,” that statement alone does not necessarily tell us what they actually believe about Jesus.

There are very different — even opposing — systems of belief that all revolve around the same figure.

1️⃣ THOSE WHO REJECT JESUS

This group views Jesus from the position that he was not the one sent by God.

They may believe that:

– Jesus was a rebel.

– Jesus abolished or changed the Law of Moses.

– Jesus violated and broke the Sabbath.

– Jesus made himself equal with God, or even claimed to be God himself.

– Jesus committed blasphemy by declaring sins forgiven.

– Jesus led Israel away from the Torah.

– Jesus did not meet the criteria by which they understood the Messiah.

– Therefore, the judgment against Jesus was the consequence of his being regarded as a deceiver, a blasphemer, or someone who led the people astray.

—

2️⃣ THOSE WHO ACCEPT THE TANAKH + THE WRITINGS OF JOHN

– Jesus is the Son of God, the Anointed One sent by YHWH.

– Jesus did not come to oppose his Father or abolish what his Father had commanded.

I believe that:

– YHWH alone is the Creator, the Father, and the One who sent Jesus.

– Jesus is the Son of God, the one sent by the Father and given authority by the Father.

– Jesus is Lord and is also a god/divine being (theos/elohim), but he is not the Creator.

– Jesus is not the One who sent him.

– Jesus does nothing on his own, but acts according to the will and commandments of the Father. The words Jesus speaks are what YHWH himself commanded him to speak.

– Jesus is not, in himself, the ultimate source of the authority to forgive sins; that authority comes from God.

– Jesus did not come to abolish the Torah or turn what YHWH calls sin into something that is no longer sin. Sin is lawlessness — transgression of the Law.

– Jesus kept the Sabbath; the disputes concerning the Sabbath were about how the Sabbath should be understood and applied, not about abolishing the Sabbath.

– Jesus was given the Spirit by YHWH, given the Word, sent forth, and granted authority.

– Eternal life is to know the Father as the only true God, and Jesus as the one whom He sent. Jesus is the mediator between God and mankind.

– Jesus’ spirit was given to cover (kaphar) for mankind, so that people might live before YHWH, receive the Spirit of YHWH, and keep the Torah of YHWH.

– I do not identify the Logos/Wisdom in John 1 with a “pre-existent Jesus” in the way traditional theology interprets it.

– I believe the words of Jesus must be understood within the foundation of the Tanakh and Torah, rather than using words attributed to Jesus in a way that makes Scripture contradict itself.

– I take the Tanakh and the writings of John as the foundation for understanding who Jesus is.

– Jesus is a human being, a consecrated man (nazir), a man who kept the Law perfectly.

The Jesus I believe in is not someone who came to revise the Word of God or exalt himself into the Creator. He is the man sent by God to open the way. He is the mediator of the New Covenant, whose blood was poured out for a covenant of blood.

3️⃣ THOSE WHO ACCEPT MATTHEW, MARK, AND LUKE

When these three books are accepted together with John and the Tanakh, the reader encounters additional traditions and accounts that do not appear in John.

Depending on how these texts are interpreted, they may believe that:

– Jesus was born of a virgin, based especially on Matthew and Luke.

– Jesus was conceived through the power of the Holy Spirit, without a human father.

– Jesus has a genealogy connected to David, although the genealogies presented in Matthew and Luke differ.

– Jesus was not a nazir: he drank wine and touched the dead.

– Jesus declared that the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.

– Jesus permitted his disciples to do certain things on the Sabbath.

– Jesus had authority to establish new laws or add laws to the Torah: “You have heard that it was said… but I say to you…”

– Some readings of Mark 7 understand Jesus as declaring all foods clean.

– Jesus had authority to declare a person’s sins forgiven.

– Jesus gave the apostles authority to forgive sins, so that heaven would follow what humans determined.

– Jesus gave Peter authority to be the head of the church.

– Jesus instituted the bread and wine as his body and blood, telling people to do this in remembrance of him.

– Matthew 28 is used as a foundation for the baptismal formula “in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.”

It is worth noting that:

+ John does not tell the story of Jesus being born of a virgin.

+ John also does not record the baptismal formula found at the end of Matthew, nor does it describe the institution of bread and wine in the way the Synoptic Gospels do.

—

4️⃣ THOSE WHO ACCEPT PAULINE THEOLOGY

When the letters of Paul become an authoritative source for interpreting Jesus, a much broader theological system emerges.

From these letters, people may construct or argue that:

– Jesus had a role in the creation of all things.

– Jesus existed before his earthly life; Philippians 2 and several other passages are commonly used to argue for his pre-existence.

– The Torah no longer remains binding in the same way under the New Covenant.

– Circumcision is no longer a requirement for belonging to the covenant people.

– Gentiles do not need to become Jews in order to belong to the people of God.

– “There is neither Jew nor Greek…” is used to emphasize a new community transcending ethnic boundaries.

– A person may regard one day as different from another or regard all days alike; Romans 14 is often brought into discussions about the Sabbath and appointed times.

– Observing days, months, seasons, and years may be viewed as returning to bondage.

– The Torah’s distinctions between clean and unclean foods are often reinterpreted by many Christians in light of Paul’s letters.

– Food offered to idols may be eaten under certain circumstances according to the arguments in 1 Corinthians 8 and 10.

– Eating meat or drinking wine may be determined according to conscience and its effect on others, rather than according to the Torah of YHWH.

– A person is justified by faith, not by “works of the Law.”

– The Law is described as a guardian leading to the Messiah, and after faith has come, believers are no longer under that guardian.

– Some passages are understood to mean that the Messiah is the end/goal of the Law.

– The death of Jesus is developed into a theological system involving atonement, justification, dying and rising together with the Messiah.

– Believers are described as the body of the Messiah, with the Messiah as the head. In John, by contrast, Jesus is the mediator through whom the source reaches mankind.

– There are spiritual gifts such as prophecy, healing, and speaking in tongues.

– In 1 Corinthians 14, speaking in tongues involves speech that listeners cannot understand unless it is interpreted.

– Believers may be caught up in the clouds to meet the Lord when he comes; this passage later became one of the foundations for doctrines concerning the “rapture.”

– Those who have died in the Messiah will rise, and those who are alive will be transformed.

– Jesus is given very exalted theological titles and functions; some Christian traditions use these passages together with other books to argue for the divinity and pre-existence of Jesus. From this theological development came the doctrine of the Trinity.

5️⃣ WHERE DOES THE PROBLEM LIE?

What is interesting is that two completely opposing sides can accuse or affirm remarkably similar things about Jesus:

🔸️Those who reject Jesus say:

“Jesus opposed the Torah.”

A segment of Christianity says:

“Yes, the old covenant has passed away, and we are no longer under the Torah.”

🔸️Those who reject Jesus say:

“Jesus broke the Sabbath.”

A segment of Christianity says:

“Yes, believers no longer need to keep the Sabbath.”

🔸️Those who reject Jesus say:

“Jesus changed the Law of God.”

Some Christian interpretations use the very words of Jesus or Paul to argue that certain commandments that were formerly binding are no longer binding.

🔷️ But there is another possibility:

What if Jesus did not oppose YHWH?

What if Jesus did not come to abolish the Torah?

What if his disputes were not about Jesus opposing the Law, but about Jesus opposing human interpretations of the Law?

What if Jesus’ authority and power do not prove that he himself is the One who sent him, but instead prove that YHWH gave him that authority?

➡️ And if we want to know who Jesus truly is, perhaps the first question should not be:

“What did later Christianity say about Jesus?”

but rather:

“What had YHWH already spoken — and does Jesus conform to those words?”

➡️ Because if Jesus truly is the one sent by YHWH, then Jesus cannot be a rebel against the One who sent him.

❗️He must bear witness to the Father.

❗️He must speak the words of the Father.

❗️He must do the works of the Father.

And Jesus himself said:

John 8:55 —

“I know Him and keep His word.”

John 12:49–50 —

“For I have not spoken from myself, but the Father who sent me has Himself given me a commandment as to what I should say and what I should speak… and His commandment is eternal life.”

John 14:24 —

“The word which you hear is not mine, but the Father’s who sent me.”

‼️ WHAT JESUS SAID ABOUT CIRCUMCISION

Speaking about the law of circumcision, Jesus said: circumcision – Law not be broken

John 7:22–23

«“For this reason Moses gave you circumcision — not that it originated with Moses, but with the fathers — and on the Sabbath you circumcise a man. If a man receives circumcision on the Sabbath so that the Law of Moses may not be broken…”»

Circumcision was given in the time of Abraham, and under Moses it remained within the written Law.

Circumcision was to be performed on the eighth day after birth. Therefore, if the eighth day fell on a Sabbath, circumcision could still be performed on that Sabbath in order to keep the commandment properly — so that the Law of God would not be broken.

Jesus did not abolish the Law, nor did he abolish circumcision.

In this passage, Jesus is teaching the proper understanding of the Sabbath — not teaching people to break the Sabbath.

– “Không còn Do Thái hay Hy Lạp…”
